Birding Costa Rica -- A Lifetime Experience for the Budget-Conscious Naturalist

If you would like an excellent and affordable introduction to some of the fantastic birds and wildlife of Costa Rica, but want to avoid the crowds, this is the tour for you.

Led by a Canadian naturalist who has been coming to Costa Rica for 18 years, this small-group tour is designed to minimize time spent traveling and maximize the time you have to discover and enjoy the beautiful and fascinating landscape and local culture of this extraordinary place.  Even though the total road distance covered by the tour is not great, you will experience several distinct natural life zones.

YOUR TOUR LEADER

Ben Miltner fell in love with the unique natural history of Costa Rica as a graduate student in geography in 1975.

Yearly since 1987 Ben has led several week-long sea kayak tours in the Osa Peninsula and Nicoya Peninsula areas with natural history as the theme.  As a result of the interest in birds shown by many kayaking clients, Ben began offering three-day land-based birding tours.  This has evolved into the nine-day birding tour described above, in which the natural history of several life zones is explored.

rainforestThroughout his career leading groups in Costa Rica Ben has emphasized small group explorations at a relaxed pace, in contrast with the large group bus tours that visit a few crowded locations. Outstanding beauty - and time to enjoy it!

A maximum of eight participants, plus tour leader and driver, will ensure you have an enjoyable and personalized experience.  The daily schedule is flexible and we travel at a relaxed pace.

Our goal is to see the major avian features of the areas we visit, without necessarily trying to maximize species count.
