Day 2 (Tuesday) - to the Talamancas
(Highland Cloud Forest)

We will have a leisurely breakfast in San Jose.  Your tour leader will give you a general orientation to the tour's destinations and we will leave the city about 10 am.

Our destination today is the "Finca de Quetzales", a rustic alpine mountain farm southeast of San Jose in the Cloud Forest of the Talamanca Mountains, at the drier edge of the Tapanti National Park.  We'll eat lunch along the way, and arrive in mid-afternoon.

The accommodation and meals at this small family farm are basic and because we're in a cloud forest the climate is cool and damp.  It's well worth the visit though, because there are old-growth Mountain Cypress and Oak trees and some special birds here, especially Resplendent Quetzals, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, and Black-and-yellow Silky-flycatchers

We'll also see Sooty and Mountain Robins, and we'll be able to compare them with the Clay-colored Robin.  Rufous-collared Sparrows are also found here.
