Itinerary: Day 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 ...next
Day 4 (Thursday) - to Talari and Cerro Chirripo (Lower Montane Forest)We'll start with a morning birdwalk down the river to a spectacular waterfall, looking for Collared Trogan, Quetzals, Acorn Woodpecker, warblers, and hawks. Then we'll have breakfast, relax, and leave shortly before noon for a stunning high-altitude drive through the paramo across the Talamanca Mountains south to our next destination. On the way, as we're descending into the valley there are stunning vistas, and updrafts often yield soaring vultures, hawks and the spectacular American Swallow-tailed Kite. After stopping for lunch in San Isidro, we'll arrive at another very comfortable family-run lodge by mid-afternoon. Located at the base of Central America's largest mountain (Cerro Chirripo), this is a great location to explore a different type of forested habitat, with many new birds to see. We'll take an introductory hike along the Rio Chirripo and around the grounds of the lodge, which have been planted to attract a wide range of resident and migrant birds. We'll wrap up the day by enjoying a home-made dinner at the lodge. |
