Itinerary: Day 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 ...next
Day 5 (Friday) - to Rio Sierpe Delta (Mangrove Forest)This day will begin with birding led by an expert local guide, looking for hummingbirds, Great Kiskadee, Tropical Kingbird, Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Northern (Baltimore) Oriole, Blue-hooded Euphonia, Blue Dacnis, and Red-legged Honeycreeper. Then we'll have an excellent breakfast at the lodge.
After a bit of time to relax we'll depart just before noon to drive down to the Pacific coast where we will follow the new coastal road south, stopping for lunch and birding along the way. Our drive takes us through Parc Nacional Marino Ballena where we'll see dramatic sea stack rock formations. We will arrive in Palmar Norte by 5 pm, where we'll have dinner before traveling on to our overnight lodgings in Sierpe, a small village on the tidal Rio Sierpe. We're in the coastal lowlands now, and it will be quite warm. |
