Corcovado National Park
A fantastic park, one of the most biologically and richly dense areas anywhere, and one of the most important natural preserves anywhere in the Americas. Probably the finest example of the world-famous Costa Rica ecology and a must see for anyone interested in wildlife. Thirteen distinct vegetation zones exist in close proximity, including mangroves, palm swamps and the more familiar forest. Over 400 species of birds, 139 species of mammals, 117 species of reptiles and 40 kinds of freshwater fish live in this area. Many species of endangered animals live here; jaguars, giant anteaters, sloths and the Harpy Eagle, the largest bird of prey in the world. You may see peccaries, tapirs, crocodiles and a host of other animals. Sperm, Humpback, Orca and Pilot whales have been observed in the ocean off the park, and sea turtles nest on its beaches. The tallest treas in Costa Rica are found in this area. With its wide diversity of wildlife, and its large tracts of old-growth forest, this is one of Costa Rica's most important natural areas. The astounding beauty of the region An extraordinary place to visit, to experience and to remember.
